We went several times to the ward playgroup at the splash park in 4S Ranch. The water at the splash park would turn off everyone once in a while and the kids would have to go push a button to turn it back on. One of the times that the water turned off Isaac got up the courage to crawl over to one of the water toys, but when the water turned back on and sprayed him, he had had enough. The other boys all enjoyed the splash park and the big three-story playground right next to it.

Help
Does anyone have any good suggestions for switching a baby from a bottle to a sippy cup? I switched Kolby over to a sippy cup when he turned 1 year old, and Eli and Camden each switched at about 10 months old. All of the other boys made an easy switch – I usually gave them their first few drinks in the sippy cup with the valve taken out so they got the idea of drinking from a cup before I put the valve back in and then they didn’t take long to get used to the sippy cup.
With Isaac I tried to switch him to the sippy cup at 10 months, and he wasn’t interested at all. He put it up to his mouth a few times, (and I tried pouring it into his mouth too – so he knew that it had his formula in it), but he never really took any sips on his own. I tried formula and water in the cup. He ended up crying all day long, and I decided I would just wait and try again later, since he wasn’t a year old yet.
So, now that he is going to be 1 year old on Thursday, I want to get him off the bottle. So, I started trying again this morning at breakfast – first giving him with cup without a valve (and having formula run all over the place whenever he lifted the cup up or dropped it on the floor). He didn’t really get much to drink, besides the few sips that I gave him as I held the cup up to his mouth. Around lunchtime he started to fuss a little, so I gave him the sippy cup again (but this time with the valve in it). I saw him put it up to his mouth once, but couldn’t tell if he really got a good drink from it.
Isaac seems pretty attached to his bottle. I just want this to be a quick and easy switch like it was with all the other boys, but I’m thinking he’s not going to let go of his bottle that easily. So, do any of you have any good suggestions that worked for your kids?

Splish Splash!
In downtown Salt Lake they have this fun little outdoor shopping center, and right in the middle is a fun splash pad for the kids to run around and get wet. My Grandma and I took the boys there on Saturday while Michael was on call at the hospital, and they had a blast. Kolby was pretty wary of the whole thing for a while – he thought it would be a great activity if we had brought our swimsuits like some of the other children there, but he did not think that running through the water in his clothes was a very good idea at all. He wouldn’t go in, until Grandma told him she’d go with him, and then he ended up having fun and getting the most soaked of any of the boys. They all enjoyed it. It was a nice activity for a hot day. (Too bad my camera battery died after I had only taken a few photos). I think we’ll have to go back sometime with swimsuits and sunscreen so that we can stay out longer.

Feeding the Birds
We went to Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake for a little family dinner Sunday evening to celebrate Grandma Bradshaw’s birthday. When we realized that the family was setting everything up just a few feet from the lake, we knew it would be hard to keep the kids dry. Camden stepped in first, and then slipped and fell in up to his neck (then he was walking around in just a diaper for the rest of the evening). Kolby later fell in when he was trying to throw bread to feed the birds (and he was walking around in his shirt and boxers the rest of the night). And later Camden fell in again (I think this time may have been an accident) while he was trying to feed the birds. Michael caught this last fall on tape. It was an eventful night and several of the family members thanked us for providing the entertainment for the evening. Happy Birthday, Grandma!

A Really Cool Frog
While we were in San Diego, my mom and I happened upon a cute little park in 4S Ranch right behind the library. It had pretty fountains and a "river," but the best part was this frog statue that squirts water out of its mouth when you push a button. It wasn't long before Kolby and Eli were soaked (and yes, in that picture of them with their feet in the water their shoes are still on), but honestly I didn't mind. Oh, to play in the water outside in January and not get frostbite . . .
