So, on one of those late nights I happened to be feeling tired of genealogy and I started looking around the internet for fun, and I came across my newest idea. I know what kind of dog I want next (not that we’re getting another dog anytime soon, but someday). So, what do you get when you mix a Labrador and a Mastiff? A Mastador (yeah, sounds like some kind of dinosaur, huh?) It’s not a real bread, and I know that dog many breeders are disgusted by people who purposely breed non-purebred dogs (although that seems just a little bit silly to me, since lots of the different purebred dogs out there now where created by breeding combinations of other breeds at some point in history – just my opinion). Who knows -- maybe I could even find one at a shelter, since adopting Brax from the local shelter has turned out so well for our family.
But anyways, I just came across some photos and I think they’re just adorable! Lots of the pictures I found are of black mastiff/lab mixes, but I especially like the fawn ones with the dark faces. And, although he didn’t say it sounded like the best idea he’d ever heard, when I showed Michael the pictures he didn’t automatically say no way (which he tends to do whenever I bring up the idea of anything to do with a Great Dane).
So, what do you think? Aren’t these some of the best looking large-breed dogs you’ve ever seen?

WAY pretty dog! so, would it only live as long as great danes do? (7 years or so)
Something I read said 10 to 14 years, (but you never know with mixed breeds if they'll be more like one breed or the other). I read that mastiffs have an average lifespan of 6 to 10 years, with a few living up to 13 or 14 years. But it said that the body mass of the mastiff was the cause for it's shortened is it's huge body mass, and most of the mastiff/lab mixes seem to be large, but not as massive as a mastiff. So, hopefully they would have the longer lifespan of a lab, but who knows?
