Harry Potter

Ok, I’m going to do it . . . I’m going to read the Harry Potter books. I never did, mostly because I felt like I would rather spend my time doing other things. Michael’s read all the books, and we enjoy seeing the movies, but that’s about it. I may have thought about reading them, but after seeing a few of the movies and already knowing the outcomes of some of the major plots, I was less interested (for the same reason that I don’t like watching most movies more than once – they’re just so much better the first time, when you don’t know how it’s all going to end).

But the other day Kolby came home and said that he started reading the first Harry Potter book at school. In his class they each have a little box of books that they get from the school library and keep in the classroom to read during their “Daily 5” reading time, and I guess he picked out Harry Potter. As far as Michael could remember, and at least from watching the movies, it seems like the 1st book is pretty innocent, but I’d still like to preview what he’s reading, so I guess I’ll give it a go. I know that the later books get more scary, and at least in some of the later movies there is a little language (don’t know about the books), so I’d like to read them first to know what Kolby will be allowed to read at this age. So, since spring break is next week we stopped at the library and Kolby checked it out, and I got a copy too. Now I just need to do a little catch-up: Kolby already got through the first two chapters in the last two days at school.  So, if I'm not quite as productive for the next little while, it's just because I've got my nose stuck in a book (or 7 books, I guess).

Awesome! I didn't know he could read that well! (So, when are you going to give him The Hobbit?)

Loved the books!! I read them each several times. The last four(books 4-7) might be a little scary for him, but one through three are, well, magical;}
