The Blue Bedroom

So, we’ve been really busy around here lately. I started painting Kolby’s, Camden’s, and Courtland’s room green last week before running out of paint and moving on to paint Eli’s and Isaac’s room blue. The room was already blue when we moved in, but it was a blue so bright that it kind of hurt your eyes when you walked into the room. We color-matched the paint to a color on one of the model airplanes we had hanging in the bedroom, and we were really pleased with how the color turned out in the room. Then I removed the last of the wallpaper in the house – a border in the study. And I painted the upstairs hallway (the same neutral tan color from downstairs), and did a little painting with that same color in the study – not finished with that yet. Then I finished painting the green bedroom yesterday – which took absolutely forever. I think that the paint in there before must have been some super high gloss stuff or something, because even with the really nice ‘paint and primer in one’ that we love, it took two coats, and then there were still lots of spots that needed touching up. But I did make a wise investment – I spent about $5 on a little hand-held gismo for painting straight lines around doors, windows, baseboards, and ceilings. Although you still need a little painter’s tape for the corners where two walls meet at the ceiling, for spots where you want a straight line down an outside corner where two different paint colors meet, and a few other hard to reach spots, I think that this edger will reduce my painting time a lot – a lot less taping, removing tape, and then touching up the little spots where the tape has pulled off some of the paint. I used the edger in the green room, and was very pleased with how it worked – as long as you don’t put too much paint on it, it makes a nice straight line. Too bad we didn’t find that earlier. Oh, and today I got a dowel and hung up the white and blue quilt that my mom got for Eli when he was a baby in the wall in his room – I think it looks really nice against the blue walls. So, anyways, the reason I’ve been so crazy about painting lately is that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel – at this point we only have two rooms left to finish painting (the living room and the study) before we’re done (ok, so really there is the upstairs bathroom and the basement too – but I’m not counting those right now because we’re not painting the bathroom until we re-tile in there, and we’re not painting the basement until we drywall the ceiling. But either way, we’re really close to finishing painting every wall in this house!) Well, here are the pictures of the blue bedroom:
