A week or so ago Kolby had his special “Star Student” day. Each kid in his kindergarten class has their own special assigned day when they get to bring in a poster all about themselves, and show the poster to the class along with an ‘All About Me’ book they made earlier in the school year, answer questions about their poster from their classmates, and they have the option of having their parent come in and read a favorite book to the class. Kolby was very excited about his Star Student day, and he was happy when I picked up a light blue poster board for his poster, because he told me that blue and yellow were his favorite colors. We took some photos around the house for his poster of some of him with some of his favorite things – his stuffed pug puppy Otis and orange striped kitty Sam, sitting at the piano, swinging on his swing in the basement playroom, and wrapped up in his special blue “manta.” And he wanted to include pictures of his family, and of his brothers too. He also drew a picture of his favorite sport – bowling. After he presented his poster, I read a Bernstein Bears trick-or-treating book to his class – I thought it was a funny choice for his ‘favorite’ books, since he’d never really shown any strong preference for that book before, but he explained to me that he likes all books about Halloween, since his birthday is on Halloween. (You may have to turn the sound up on your computer to hear the video – Kolby was speaking pretty quietly).
