Today at church we learned about the importance of the Holy Ghost. He is like a personal compass to us. The requirement is to obey the commandments with diligence and faith, and he can be our constant companion. He is a member of the Godhead that is a spirit, which allows him to accomplish his mission. He acts as a Comforter and bearer of truth by giving thoughts in our mind or good feelings or a burning warmth in our heart.
Stephanie is a teach for a family history course at church that started today. Her topic was on Getting Started and how to start getting all of your resources together. Courtland was being kind of noise, but for the parts I got to hear, she did a great job.
Winter finally decided to show up this weekend, and it came back with a vengeance. It has been snowing on and off since Thursday night, and we now have at least 2 feet total. We have spent a good amount of time shoveling the driveway. Kolby helped us yesterday, and then he and I played outside and made a cool snowman.
Steph and I had a nice date last night. We went and saw New Moon at the reduced cost movie theater and had fun just spending time together.
Last Sunday night we had a stake priesthood meeting out in Palmyra. The topic was the law of chastity. Each speaker focused on a different angle of this law – how it relates to marriage; how to avoid pornography like the plague; and what blessings can come from living this law. The spirit was really strong and it was a great meeting.
Samer, one of the other dermatology residents, convinced me to join his indoor soccer team. I had never played indoor soccer before. They have a half court basketball court at the hospital where I work, which is where we play the games. It is coed and 4 on 4, with 1 girl out from each team at all times. We play two 30-minute halves. I played in my first game over at the hospital gym on Tuesday and realized quickly how out of shape I am. We lost, but I had so much fun playing – I’m excited for the rest of the season.
Stephanie had her activity days meeting Wednesday night at the church. They worked on learning the Articles of Faith and getting other activities passed off for the Faith in God award. She was back over at the church Thursday night to work on reading off information from some microfilms that she had ordered to our church building that had some information about her ancestors. It is in the old German (not even in the same alphabet that we use). She is able to look at it and pick out names from everything else (amazing!). After looking for some time, she found information on her maternal 6th great-grandparents from German in the late 1700s – way cool!
Steph also got our huge shopping trip done this week. We try and do a really big trip once every 2-3 weeks. Then we only have to go back for little things, like milk. We decided to try and get more fresh vegetables and fruits into our dinner meals, which have been so good this week. We tried a vegetable lasagna tonight that we got the recipe from my sister Mel, and it was delicious. Thanks for that recipe Mel.
