Paperclips

Before Christmas we took the boys to the dollar store so they could each pick out little gifts for their brothers, and there weren’t a ton of toys that didn’t look like they’d break after the first time they were played with, so I suggested Eli and Kolby get little boxes of different colored, different sized paperclips for each other – I know they like to sort things by sizes and shapes, and I told them they could make little chains out of them. I really thought they would make a few chains and then loose interest, but boy was I wrong. I’d have to say that at least for Kolby the paperclips may have ranked in his list of top gifts that he received. Almost every day this week he’s had off of school he has spent the quiet time when his brothers are sleeping sitting at the table with his paperclips, sorting them into piles, then making chains, and going around the room comparing the length of the different colored chains to furniture in the room.
