So, our little Courtland is getting so big now. He is 5 months old and has reached several of his “mile stones” in the last month or so. Before we moved – on June 27th – he laughed for the first time (when our friend, Jill, was holding him one night at our house).
Then, after we got moved in here, he had his first solid food, rice cereal, on July 11th. He started on his first vegetable, green beans, just the other night.
And he decided to roll over (from his back to his tummy) for the first time the day after that. He also started sleeping in the playpen last week – not because he stopped liking to be swaddled at night and to sleep in his swing, but because it’s been rather hot in the house the last few nights and it was just too warm to wrap him up in his blankets anymore. Plus Isaac started to climb out of the playpen a couple weeks ago so we had decided to move him to the toddler bed anyways, so that all happened to work out well and have good timing.
Oh, and Courtland has also started to hold his bottle up in his hands some of the time too recently. Over the last month or so he has also started to take a longer afternoon nap some days, although he still takes little cat naps throughout the day.
(Thank you, Aaron, for being patient enough to capture this video for me.)
Oh, and his favorite toy is one that we got when Kolby was a little baby -- it's a little fabric book that has pages that make crinkly sounds, kind of like real paper, when they are moved -- I can't remember which family member or friend gave us that little book for Kolby, but thank you, it has been a favorite baby toy for all of our boys.
And yesterday Courtland rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time. And I also decided to move his playpen into Camden and Kolby’s bedroom yesterday too – Michael has to do a lot of reading for work and he has been getting up early in the morning to get his reading done, but then the boys will get up early too and need a lot of attention so I moved the baby and cleared out the study so there is a place for him to get his reading done. Courtland did well sleeping in the room with his brothers last night, and he is napping in there with them right now too, so that transition has gone well so far.
Courtland is such a little sweetheart. One of his favorite things to do is to lay on a blanket in the grass in the back yard and look up and watch the leaves blow in the trees. He has also enjoyed sitting in his baby walker and bouncing in the little jumper seat that hangs in the doorway. He is so sweet because if he is being fussy, all we have to do is walk into his sight and he calms down and acts happy. And picking him up and holding him results in adorable smiles, and sometimes a little giggle. And he loves his big brothers so much too. He’s just a little joy!
