A Good Week

We’ve had a good week – as you’ve probably read in my last few updates, Courtland is doing great, and we are expecting that he will go back to the normal-calorie formula after his checkup next week. He has been eating like crazy – taking his 5 ounces every three hours, and the last couple days he has even been acting hungry after about 2 hours or so, so at least I’m not concerned about him loosing weight anymore.

We started the week with coming home from the hospital on Monday (I can’t believe that was just this last week). And then we had a fun day on Tuesday – Michael got up early and prepared a green breakfast for St. Patrick’s Day. He made green eggs and ham with green milk and green orange juice. The kids loved it! The boys all wore green too. We had a WIC appointment that day – which was less-than-fun for me to take the boys and the new baby to by myself, but we survived. And then that evening the Owens came over for dinner. We made corned beef (my favorite!) and cabbage and potatoes, and the Owens brought green jello cups with marshmallows and pineapple, which the kids loved. Kolby, however, was very disappointed when we finished the meal and he realized that we weren’t having any corn (he loves corn on the cob), but we explained to him that corned beef was meat and not corn.

On Wednesday Kolby had his piano lesson, and he learned his first song where he gets to play more than one note at the same time. He has also been learning about slurs lately. It’s fun to see him learn new things (and now he is getting to the point where he is learning some things that I didn’t know already about reading music, so I’m learning too as I go and listen during his lessons). He was a little quiet during his lesson, though, because I had to wake him up for his lesson – we usually do “rests” for Kolby on Wednesdays instead of naps – he has time to calm down and read or color in bed, but I don’t make him go to sleep because he is grumpy if I have to wake him up. But the last couple weeks he has fallen asleep anyways, so Emily offered to let us change the time for his lessons. We will be doing it on Fridays at 11am instead (because the boys don’t have preschool on Fridays), so that will be nice because he’ll still have time to eat lunch and take a nap after he gets home. On Wednesday night Isaac got to have his night out with Michael. We needed milk, so they went to the grocery store for his activity, and when they were done shopping Michael got him a box of animal crackers, which he enjoyed.

On Thursday morning Courtland had his weight check, where we found that he had gained almost 2 pounds in one week – amazing! And then on Friday I had my 6-week checkup after having the baby, which went fine. Friday was also officially the first day of Spring. The weather this last week has been absolutely wonderful – in the 60s and 70s. Just the fact that the boys can go play out in the back yard makes me look forward to the someday when we can live in California and be able to go outside whenever we want to without having to bundle up in winter clothes and then come inside after the kids get wet and cold. It has been so great letting them play outside, enjoying lunches in the back yard, flying kites, playing at the park, and walking barefoot. Too bad it’s supposed to snow tomorrow. But I am looking forward to whenever this next storm passes and it warms up again – I really want to have a BBQ and invite a bunch of friends, like we always used to do in Milwaukee.

Well, on Saturday morning Michael had a leadership meeting at church for ward conference, and when he got home we went to Peachwood Park not far from here and let the kids fly Eli’s kite and play on the playground for a little while before coming home for a late lunch and naps. Then I went and picked up some vegetables and drinks for dinner, found some church pants for Kolby at the Kid to Kid store since his last ones had big holes in the knees, and stopped at Maurice’s (my favorite store at the mall) and found two cute new shirts on sale – I’ve been saving my Christmas and birthday money to get some post-pregnancy clothes once my body got back to normal, and I’m getting close enough. It’s always fun to find new clothes that actually look cute on. When I got home I marinated the vegetables and then took a shower. Michael brought Courtland in and I washed him off (one downside to bottle feeding is the yucky spit-up smell all the time). Then I handed the baby off and had all the boys come in and get all clean (so we didn’t have to get up early to do it this morning before church). Then we headed over to the Barker’s house and had a BBQ for dinner. It’s always fun to get together with them, and we haven’t had a chance to see them much since we had the baby.

And today we had a good day at church. Miriam wasn’t feeling well, but we met Wayland and the girls and walked over to church together this morning. Isaac is still a month away from the age when they start going to the children’s nursery class, but after sitting in the adult class with him being noisy for a little while, I just took him in the nursery class anyways. He did so well that I think I’ll just keep going in there with him for the next few weeks until he is 18 months old and is old enough to go in on his own. We walked home, and it was quite windy, and we got back and put all the boys down for their naps, and now Michael is feeding Courtland while I’m writing this. I’d say it’s been a pretty good week.
