Chubby Baby

Things are going great for Courtland right now. When we were at the doctor’s office last Thursday (the morning that we went into the hospital) he weighed 7 lbs 13 oz, and today (exactly one week later) he surprised us with a weight of 9 lbs 7 oz. That’s amazing. I guess he thinks he needs to get caught up all at once. The doctor was pleased with his progress, and scheduled another weight check in one week. She said that if he is still gaining that quickly by next week, she will probably move him back down to the 20 calorie formula (the normal stuff) – he’s on 24 calories right now – she said that although we want him to continue to gain and catch up, we don’t want his growth curve to go straight up for too long, since that can lead to obesity problems later in life. So, hopefully he will continue to do great this week so he can move back to the normal concentration formula, and then in one more week after that he will have his 2 month appointment. My goal is to have him back on track by then. I asked her what weight she would expect him to be at if he hadn’t had this failure to thrive problem, and she said that by the 2 month appointment she would want him to be somewhere around 12 pounds, so I think that with the progress he has been making so far, it may be possible to come pretty close to that weight over the next two weeks.

wow, you've been through a lot lately. Haven't checked your blog for a little while. So glad he is starting to gain weight and get over his illness. Hope you can catch up on some much needed rest as well.
