Summer Vacation Photos 2: Oregon

Oregon!

Blackberry Picking & Beach Bonfire

The dogs could just run & run, and there was no one else in sight to bother on the beach.

(I laughed when we later learned that beach bonfires are restricted there this time of year because of fire danger.  They clearly have a different idea of high fire danger in this lush green, rainy, foggy wet land than we do in our comparatively dry, brown Southern California).  :)

Sugarloaf

There were slamanders

Lots of salamanders!

Ouch!

Scenes from the kids' plays:

Coquille River Falls

Wow!  I can't believe we were the only ones there all day.

Seriously, this place was so amazing!

Jumping into the deep water from the fallen tree was fun, and swimming under the waterfall was so refreshing!

Wow!

Sleepy boy

Look at that moss!

Clamming & Crabbing

Do you think we got enough clams?

Michelle's homemade clam chowder

Secret Beach

This beach is under water most of the time -- Michelle knew to bring us at really low tide to enjoy this one.

A waterfall down onto the beach

Sea cave

Don't know what this is -- jellyfish eggs?  Octopus eggs?

I love this picture of Michael

We didn't even plan to gather mussels, but when we saw them there, since we already had a shellfish license from clamming & crabbing the day before, we went for it. Didn't need too many, though, since we had the crabs waiting for us at home.

Look at the color of that water!

We considered trying out a starfish too (which we were allowed to take with our shellfish license), but since a brief google search for starfish recipes returned only a couple videos of people in Asia trying out fried starfish on a stick, we decided to let it go.

This starfish was eating a mussel

At this point on the trip I accidentally fell into the water while carrying Ri -- I was ok, and I kept Ri from getting too wet, but my phone took a swim. Luckily my phone made a full recovery after 2 days drying out in a bag of rice, but no more photos for me on this trip. We did take a few more on Michael's phone, though.

Crab & mussels for dinner!

Rogue River Jet Boat Tour

Best seats in the house!

Look closely, that's a bald eagle (the highlight of Michael's day)
