Day Out with Mom

During the school year my mom and I try to plan at least one day a month when we go out together all day, just the two of us, and we usually explore somewhere new. Today was one of the free SD resident days at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, and neither of us had ever been there before so we went to check it out. Then we started walking south through Balboa Park and saw a sign for ‘Inspiration Point’, so we headed that way. We found a place with a little bit of a view of part of the Coronado bridge, and kept walking and found a little covered bridge over the freeway, and went walking through downtown San Diego. We had seen the dome on top of the San Diego Public Library, which neither of us had ever visited, so we headed that direction. We enjoyed the occasional cute little Victorian houses between the larger, newer downtown buildings as we walked. When we got to the library we went up to the top floor, where there was a cool little outdoor seating area below the dome, and we checked out the library’s genealogy collection for a little while before walking a couple blocks to a cute little restaurant called Harvest and enjoying lunch. We ended up exploring areas we hadn’t even planned to go, enjoyed talking together, and ended up walking over 8 miles today. Pretty fun!
