Bike Riding

Michael’s parents sent money for a new bike for Kolby a few weeks ago (thanks again!)  After a bit of shopping around, we picked it out and got it all put together a week or so ago. Plus, I got out some old training wheels that we had in the garage and put them on an old bike that we had for Eli. (I also put another set of old training wheels on a second old bike for Camden, but we need to fix the tires before that bike is useable – luckily Camden doesn’t seem to mind riding along on his tricycle at all). But Kolby and Eli were excited to ride their new bikes, and took them out in the back yard to try them out (even though our back yard isn’t really the best for bike riding). Eli got frustrated when he had trouble pushing his bike up the slope in the yard (of course he had to choose to go up the very steepest part, right by the tree). And Kolby wasn’t too excited that Isaac wanted to follow him on his tricycle and stay right on his tail, as Kolby attempted to make the tight turns to ride around on our back porch. But they still had fun with their bikes. And then last week we went on a bike ride with all the boys. Michael and I walked and pushed Courtland in the stroller, and Kolby and Eli rode their bikes while Camden and Isaac rode their trikes. Camden did pretty well at keeping up with his big brothers, but we learned that we’ll have to make sure Isaac wears shoes instead of flip-flops on our next ride, since his flip-flops kept falling off, and he prefers to just push his feet along on the ground rather than pedaling, (even though he is able to pedal). I think his trike is just too small, so once we get Camden’s bike tires fixed, then Isaac’ll be able to move up to the bigger trike. Although there was a lot of stopping and waiting for Isaac, everyone still had fun on our first family bike ride since before Courtland was born.
