We’ve been enjoying having a dog since we got Brax about a month or so ago. We were a little worried for a bit there because Brax was underweight when we got him from the shelter, and instead of gaining weight when we increased his food, he lost a few pounds. But after a trip to the vet and then increasing his food even more, he has finally started to fill out and looks healthier now (the vet suggested that maybe we just wear him out with all the kids and an active family). So, Brax has settled in here at our house. After waiting a while before we trusted that he really was house trained, Michael and I started to let him sleep on a dog bed in our bedroom at night (instead of in his crate), and he adjusted quickly to that change. He has really calmed down a lot since the first week we had him – he must have just been excited to be in a new place. Everyone we meet comments about how calm and well tempered he is, and we’ve had lots of people tell us that we’re lucky, because labs are known for being wild and not growing out of the puppy stage until they’re 3 or 4 years old (and Brax is 2). So, we’re pretty happy with him – he’s a very good dog. And I didn’t think I’d get so attached to a dog so quickly. Here are some pictures, and a couple videos of the boys with the dog. (The photos of Eli ‘riding’ Brax are just posed – he’s actually holding him self up on the side of the chair and the wall. He tried riding Brax, but we told him he was too big for that). Oh, and I just love the video of Eli training Brax -- it surprised me that he would do these things when Kolby and Eli 'train' him, but he responds to them really well.
