Wii Fit Plus and Flying Airplanes

Monday I was home with the boys (except Courtland) while Steph was traveling home from San Diego. We spent the morning cleaning up the house and decorating as a surprise for Steph’s birthday (which had been the day before, Sunday, but she was in San Diego for her brother’s farewell). The boys were great helpers and loved playing with the balloons. While I was blowing up one of them, it exploded into my left eye. I don’t know if it was just the explosion or if an actual piece of balloon hit my eye, but it immediately started burning and watering and my left ear was ringing for several minutes. My vision was ok, but I think I must have bruised my cornea because I was light-sensitive for the rest of that day, and even today if I press on my upper eyelid, it is still a little sore. That was quite a scare, since my eyes are so important for my future employment as a dermatologist (since you do your job by looking at the skin). Scary!!

So as Steph already wrote, her flight got delayed and she ended up home late Monday night. The boys and I had fun writing the “28 things we love about Mommy” and getting her flowers and a Wii Fit Plus game. We have had some much fun with that this week. It has a spot where you weigh yourself and set goals, and then it has a fitness section. In there you can choose between multiple categories. I am amazed at how this technology works – how it can work like a skateboard, snowboard, bicycle, or pad to do exercises on. We were able to put the boys on as well, so they can take turns playing the exercising games. It’s really cool.

Tuesday night a nurse came by to get some health information from Steph and I since we are signing up for new life insurance. I was first and then it was Steph’s turn. I had the food left over in the crock pot from the night before, so I thought I’d be good and heat it up while he finished with Steph. I didn’t want to move it to another container (ultimate laziness, I know), so I just stuck the crock pot on top of the stove. Bad mistake – what was I thinking. About 5 minutes into heating, I heard several loud bangs – I thought something was exploding. You can look at Steph’s previous post to see what the crock pot looked like afterwards – it was a goner. So sad – that crock pot lasted us for 7 years.

I have been on call this weekend, so most of our activities took place close to home. If we had to go out, it was in 2 cars, in case I got called in to see a patient. All I can say is we are loving home call, where I get to be with the family, answer the occasional phone call, and go in to the hospital only if really needed.

Friday night Kolby had a pajama movie night at his school. All the family was invited, so we got the boys in their pajamas and headed over after dinner. They had popcorn and drinks and showed “The Emperor’s New Groove.” It was done in the cafeteria and they tapped into the sound system, so the volume was great no matter where you were sitting. The kids loved it and did great – even Isaac and Courtland. What a great idea.

Yesterday we got Eli & Issac’s room and Steph’s and my room decorated. The boys now have pictures of airplanes and clouds, a shelf with an airplane book and a container of marbles, and then 3 old fashioned airplanes hanging from their ceiling. We put up some shelfs with pictures and a candle in our room. We finally got our dresser top cleared off and can use it like normal. Our room is now empty of the excess clutter, which was moved to the closet – I guess that will be the next thing to clean up.

Everyone was able to make it to church today and we survived. As our scout committee chairman, I have been working hard on getting things ready for the annual recharter with the Boy Scouts. I was running around tying up the loose ends today. I am also working with the young men in the ward as the secretary, so that is fun because I now get to know the teenagers better as I attend class with them.
