Birthday Suprises

So, it was rather disappointing that I just barely missed my flight home from San Diego on Monday because of a mistake with the departure time – which got Courtland and I home around 9:30pm instead of 3:30pm – especially since I found out that Michael and the boys had been planning to surprise me because I was gone on my birthday (which was on Sunday). When we got home from the airport all of the boys were asleep, and then Kolby woke up and wanted to stay up to watch me open my present from them. They had been working hard all day making the entire house spotless – thoroughly cleaning everything, even mopping all the floors. And Michael had tried out a new recipe that we hadn’t had before for dinner. They had made and decorated a cake. And they’d put up steamers and balloons in every room downstairs and by the front door and in the garage, and posted a “list of 28 things we love about Mommy” that the boys had helped Michael come up with that they had taped to the door (Michael said that the boys came up with about 2/3 of the things on the list). Michael got me some pretty flowers too. And later on Michael told me that he had also invited over a few families to come and surprise me for an unexpected dessert night – and I totally love that kind of thing, so hopefully we’ll still be able to do it sometime before too long, oh well. And I was totally surprised with my gift too – they got me Wii Fit. Michael has a Wii video game system, and I’m not really excited about video games, except the couple of sports games where you are up and active while playing (especially tennis), so Michael thought it would be fun to get Wii Fit, which is a balance board that you stand on and there are all sorts of games – balance, yoga, fitness training, aerobics, etc. I guess you can set it to measure your body mass index and make goals for that too, which sounds pretty cool. And you can take turns with multi-player games, so I think we’ll all have fun with it. And it’s pretty good that Michael was able to surprise me with a gift – even though I’m not usually trying to figure it out, I often have an idea of what my gifts will be before I get them, so the surprise was fun too. Thanks, Michael – I sure have a wonderful husband and great sons too!
