One of my favorite things about this new house is watching all the new flowers that we didn’t know were in the yard as they bloom. For instance, there’s this large bush next to our driveway that has grown somewhat sideways, and I mentioned to Michael when we moved here that there wouldn’t be any way to get it to grow straight at this point so maybe we should eventually get rid of it altogether. And then the other day it got this large, beautiful dark pink flower. Now the entire bush is covered in pink/purple flowers. I think the flowers are so nice that I wouldn’t want to cut it down even if it is growing a little sideways. (And I found out later that that bush is called a ‘Rose of Sharon’). And there are these pretty little red flowers that grew out at the end of the deck that attracted hummingbirds, and one of the biggest lilies I’ve ever seen also bloomed in a flower bed on the side of the house a few weeks ago. It’s so fun because we have new surprises all summer long.
