Here At Last

Well, we’re here. We arrived safely after a 2,000 mile, 30+ hour drive. A group of men from church helped us unpack the moving trucks (the man who dropped off our storage unit pod from ABF told us that it was a record heavy pod – I guess that means we’re really good packers?) and after only 3 nights here we finally got all of the beds set up so no one had to sleep in a sleeping bag anymore. We feel like if we had a month without the boys here to do all the unpacking, furniture shopping, painting, yard work, and little jobs to get the house ready that that would be really nice, but with the kids things are a little slower going. We have a washer and dryer being delivered tomorrow (which will be really nice to be able to wash all the clothes – we’ve just barely made it so far without doing laundry since we were in Utah). And we found a really nice dining room table and chairs that are also going to be delivered tomorrow – the other day a couple from church invited us to dinner and on the way to their house we were telling the boys we were going to a friends’ house for dinner. Camden got all excited and asked, “Do they have a table?” We have gotten a lot of unpacking done – the family room, the kitchen, the boys’ bedrooms, the study, the bathrooms, the basement, and the garage are all unpacked – now we just have the boxes that are stacked up in the living room and our bedroom to tackle, and once we fill this place in with some furniture it will hopefully make it a little easier to find places to put things away. Someone from church offered to let us use his trailer to go pick up an entertainment center tomorrow that we found on craigslist, so that should be good. And Michael and I have both enjoyed the little bit of yard work we’ve been able to get to so far – Michael found that it takes quite a bit longer to mow this lawn than it did at Grandma’s house, and I have spent some time trying to tackle the weeds. Luckily once we get the weeds under control we don’t think this yard will be very high maintenance. And Michael started his first day of orientation yesterday. And then Saturday is the 4th of July, so that will be a lot of fun to take a break from everything and go to the parade, go to the ward picnic, and then find a fireworks show. So, this afternoon we close on the house and everything will be official (and we’ll get to start painting!) Wish us luck with that! (Although we’ve been very busy with everything we have to do here, at least it’s better to unpack than to pack).

Glad to hear you made it safely -- what a job for all of you. Having driven cross-country countless times (with children), I REALLY understand. I'm sure you'll really like the area; it's beautiful (if you can stand the humidity). We'll be anxious to hear how things are going for you. Aunt Bonnie
