House Hunting

So, we have had a great week out here in Rochester. We are staying with the cheif dermatology resident and her family, and they have been so kind to us and have given us a lot of ideas and suggestions about houses. On Sunday we visited three different wards in the area (and were glad to find that our family would fit well into any of them, since there are lots of young families and friendly people in all of the wards we visited). We started house hunting on Monday morning, and saw 13 houses that day. Some houses were definitely better than others, and while we were looking at houses that first day, we definitely saw the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Good:
(If only all of these were in the same house).

The Bad:

On a very busy street.

Besides the fact that I don't care for the wood panelling,
I think someone forgot the rail on the staircase.

If only you could have smelled this house . . .

It's hard to tell from the photo, but there were pretty good-sized holes on this side of the garage wall where you could see right to through to the outside.

And, yes, that is a railroad track that runs along the backyard fence.

And The Ugly:

These last few are all from the same house. And yes, every single surface in the house was painted a different color. (Actually, if the house had everything else going for it and you were willing to spend lots and lots of time re-painting, it looked like it had some pretty cool old architectural details).
