Funny Things

I realized that I hadn’t written down some of the funny things the boys have said recently, so I thought I’d better write them down before I forgot them.

A month or so ago I took the boys to a little pet store just to look at the animals for fun. There were several kittens there, and Kolby asked me if we could have one. I told him that we couldn’t have one because daddy was allergic to cats. And after explaining what allergic meant Kolby said, “Ok, can we get a kitty after daddy is gone?” I told him that daddy was going to be with us for a long time, so we couldn’t get a kitty. He said, “Ok, then can we get one after daddy is dead?” I told him that daddy wasn’t going to die anytime soon – that he would be with us for a long, long time, and that we couldn’t get a kitty. So quietly he said, “Ok, after daddy dies in a long, long time.”

And a couple weeks ago my grandma told me about a conversation she had with Kolby this week. Kolby asked her when she was going to have a baby, and she told him that she wasn’t going to have any more babies. He asked why not, and she told him that she was too old. He then asked her if mommy was old, and she said, “No, mommy is still young.” And he said, “Yeah, Mommy is still young because she is going to have a baby. But after she has this baby then she will be old because she isn’t going to have any more babies after that.”
I thought that was pretty funny, and it shows how much Kolby picks up on – Michael and I have talked about this probably being our last baby, but I hadn’t ever discussed that with Kolby.

And then last week we were walking home from church. There was a little dog sitting in a front yard along our walk home. It was about the size of a chihuahua, but it was black and brown with big ears and long fur, and I wondered what breed it was. I said, “That’s a cute little thing – I wonder what kind it is?” And Eli quickly responded, “It’s a dog, Mommy.”
