Well, I have been thinking lately that I needed to cut Camden’s hair. He has such beautiful hair, and everyone compliments him on his blonde curls, but lately his hair has been getting longer and he has been loosing some of those beautiful curls, especially on the top. So, I thought that if I just trimmed it a little shorter all over, then it would be lightweight and short enough to hold the curls.
So this morning I did it. I wasn’t quite sure exactly how to do it, since I have never cut curly hair before, and the haircut I do for Kolby’s and Eli’s hair is quite different. But I just started cutting it a little shorter all over.
I saved some of the cute blonde curls for his baby book. After cutting it, it was a little shocking for me to see it so short and straight. But I thought that as soon as I got it wet, his little ringlets would return. And I was right – I got it wet and it was curly all over again. It was a little shorter than I would have liked, maybe, but I figured it would be cute with all the curls, and it would grow out a little and look “just right” in a month or two (when we will be taking our yearly family portraits before Christmas).
But after his haircut we went to take Kolby to preschool and run some errands, and his hair dried all the way while we were out. In the past, when Camden’s wet hair dries, it leaves beautiful curls. But now it dried and most of the curls fell out. He still has little wispy curls around the edges of his hair, but they are mostly gone. I know it doesn’t really matter how he looks at all, but it is going to take me a while to get used to this new look. He looks like a big boy now, and not my little baby. I should have just left it alone for a few more months. Oh well – it is just hair, and it will grow back eventually.
