Grimes Glen

When Dan and Rachel came into town from Connecticut this weekend, we decided to take them to one of our favorite hiking spots – we went to Grimes Glen in Naples, NY. It was a nice sunny afternoon and the water was comfortably cool (better than when we went last time and it was pouring rain and we ended up walking through the creek and eventually doing a little swimming, even though we were in jeans, sweatshirts, shoes, and socks). This time we had swimsuits and flip flops, and it was great. You walk up through the shallow creek bed and get to one waterfall, then continue on to the second waterfall where there is a little pool at the bottom that’s perfect for swimming or wading. We read online that you can continue up the hill alongside the second waterfall to get to another falls, but that hike isn’t really one you could do with this many little kids. We took the dog, and this was the first time we’d taken him near water. He was a little hesitant to get in at first, but was more than excited to jump into the pool and swim after his tennis ball. It was a fun afternoon. I still want to go back on an extra hot day and pack some food and stay at the pool at the second waterfall all day long – such a nice place.
